Bands that still have a lot of life in them should know better than to release retrospectives before they passed their prime, but I guess everybody needs a paycheck now and again.

Silvesun Pickups have been consistantly releasing great music over the last few years, but in early 2014 they are switching things up and delivering a retrospective – aka greatest hits compilation – featuring only a single new track. That song, titled “Cannibal,” is available for streaming starting today. You can experience the track in full at the end of this post.

You never really know what to expect from Silversun Pickups when new material comes your way. “Cannibal” is a far more synth-heavy offering than their previous material, but once the hook hits, you realize the group’s core appeal is still firmly in tact. I wouldn’t say it’s anything to write home about, but it certainly is not the worst song they’ve ever released.

We probably won’t cover the upcoming Silversun retrospective that much, but we will keep an eye out for tour dates and additional information regarding new material. For now, comment below and let us know if “Cannibal” is something you can see yourself enjoying in the months ahead.
